Complications of Laparoscopic Surgery-Cholecystectomy

Michael Rhodes

Norfolk and Norwich NHS Trust Hospital, Norwich, United Kingdom

The complications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy have dominated the surgical literature for the past 7 years, yet there is no obvious reason why complication rates for laparoscopic surgery should be greater than those reported for open cholecystectomy. This chapter provides a summary of the prevalence and nature of biliary complications that may attend laparoscopic cholecystectomy together with advice on how complications may be avoided. Key Words: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy • per-operative cholangiography • bile duct injury • bile leak.
